Harvesting contractor Dawson & Havard Limited won two categories – Contractor of the Year, and Outstanding Environmental Management. They have two crews currently harvesting for us in the Wairarapa, at Kaiwhata Forest and Blairlogie North Forest.
C3 provides log marshalling services to Forest Enterprises and other users of the Log Hub at Waignawa near Masterton. Masterton Team Leader Craig Allen won the Distribution Excellence Award for his commitment to problem-solving, information flow and client service.
Silviculturist Waisaka Sabutu of Wairarapa Forestry Services Limited (WFS) took the award for Forestry Excellence. For many years, Forest Enterprises has contracted WFS for almost all of our Wairarapa-based silvicultural programme, including our annual winter replanting programme. Their team produces top quality work and are committed to continuous improvement.
Forest Enterprises wishes to acknowledge all the nominees for this season’s awards, and congratulates Gavin, Craig and Waisaka for their win. For the full list of 2018 Award winners, visit the Southern North Island Wood Council website.

Dawson & Havard set an exemplary example of a forest contractor operation and set the bar for other contractors in the region. Attention to detail in all aspects of harvesting operations with an even focus on safety, quality and production including introducing innovation to achieve all of these facets mean that professional contractors like Havards reflect positively on the forest industry. Supporting initiatives around youth training, rural fire suppression and community fundraising complement the key component of harvest operations that Havards supply to a variety of forest owners in the region.
